Ko Proposes Taiwan National Bitcoin Reserve
Taiwanese legislator Ko Ju-chun has suggested that establishing a national Bitcoin reserve should be considered as a plan for the near future. At an event called Bitcoin Asia, Ko stated that creating such a reserve 'should be a plan for the near future,' without announcing any finalized government policy.
A national Bitcoin reserve would involve the government holding and managing Bitcoin as part of its broader financial strategy. This approach differs from traditional reserve assets like foreign currencies and gold because it involves a decentralized digital asset that operates on a blockchain network.
The proposal does not address specific issues such as custody, security, acquisition, or disposal mechanisms for the asset. Nor did Ko provide any figures regarding the potential size of the reserve or outline a funding mechanism.
