Kraken Prop Expands to Commodities With Lower Non-Crypto Fees

Share

Kraken Prop has expanded its offering to include six commodity markets while reducing non-crypto commissions on most plans. The update, announced on October 29, adds gold, silver, WTI oil, Brent oil, copper, and natural gas to the platform's simulated trading environment. Participants submit trade signals without holding actual positions, and the changes apply to plans other than Lite, where the non-crypto commission drops from four basis points to two basis points per side.

The service remains unregulated, and evaluation fees become non-refundable once trading begins. Kraken emphasizes that the commodity offering is available in all regions where Kraken Prop operates, except the UAE. The company also notes that plan-specific leverage and notional caps vary, so maximum limits quoted for one tier do not apply universally.

Lower commissions can impact frequently traded strategies, but they do not guarantee profitable outcomes. For example, a hypothetical $50,000 notional signal would incur $20 in fees at the new rate, compared to $40 previously. However, traders must still account for price movements, spreads, and other costs. Kraken clarifies that participants do not own the underlying commodities, and the simulated account size does not represent withdrawable cash.

The service provides continuous market availability, but the quality of quotations outside normal trading hours depends on the platform's pricing methodology. Kraken advises potential users to carefully review the contract terms, performance calculation methods, and payout conditions before participating.
