Kraken Withdrawal Claims May Be Overhyped Amid Weak Investor Demand
Bitcoin surpassed $65,000 on Monday, but its price action was tempered by concerns over a reported $198 million withdrawal from Kraken. According to Whale Alert, a 3,080 BTC transfer was tagged as coming from Kraken, but upon closer inspection, it appears that the transaction records show wallet reshuffling rather than verified whale accumulation.
The distinction matters, as coins must leave exchange control before tradable inventory falls. The $198 million scarcity claim may be exaggerated due to the underlying pattern of transactions.
ETF flows provide a cleaner measure of investor demand, and the funds drew $499.1 million from Monday through Wednesday but lost $465.2 million over the next two sessions, reversing about 93% of the early-week intake. The week still ended with a net inflow of approximately $33.9 million.
The Federal Reserve's July 28-29 meeting presents the next major test for Bitcoin, which gained alongside broader risk assets but remains vulnerable to renewed U.S.-Iran fighting or a hawkish Fed.
