Kraken's Wallet Transforms into Comprehensive Financial Operating System
Kraken's wallet has evolved into a comprehensive financial operating system, blurring the lines between centralized exchanges and decentralized finance.
The exchange launched its Kraken Wallet on April 17, 2024, as a self-custodial tool supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and over 12 networks. From the start, it was designed to function independently of a Kraken exchange account, allowing users to manage tokens, NFTs, and DeFi positions on their own terms.
The acquisition of Magic Labs' embedded wallet business in July 2026 fundamentally changed how users interact with the app. This allowed Kraken to bake wallet functionality directly into its main trading interface, removing friction that has historically kept casual users away from onchain activity.
The result is an integrated platform supporting over 2,500 verified Solana tokens through embedded wallets, no seed phrases required. DeFi Earn vaults allow users to put their holdings to work without leaving the app, with a notable example being the Bitcoin Vault that pulled in roughly $400M in deposits by mid-2026.
The wallet also integrates swaps, cross-chain bridges, and WalletConnect for connecting to external decentralized applications. On the tokenized assets front, Kraken has partnered with firms like Centrifuge to bring real-world asset management into the wallet experience.
