Kyobo Life and Partners Explore Stablecoin Use in Financial Services
Kyobo Life Insurance hosted a forum in Seoul on October 1, bringing together SBI Holdings, Circle, and BDACS to explore the potential of stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets in financial services. The event, titled "Bridging Finance Onchain," showcased concepts for payment and settlement using BDACS’s KRW1 stablecoin, pegged to the Korean won, and Circle’s USDC. Circle also presented its Arc network and Circle StableFX tools for onchain stablecoin foreign-exchange settlement, highlighting the broader institutional applications of these technologies.
Kyobo Life’s focus extends beyond cross-border payments, now including proof-of-concept work in insurance operations and asset management. The insurer aims to formalize cooperation with both domestic and international financial and digital-asset firms. While the forum demonstrated various use cases, it did not announce any completed commercial service rollouts, emphasizing instead the exploratory nature of the discussions.
The event built upon earlier work by Kyobo Life and SBI Holdings, which began a proof-of-concept project in July 2026 to test direct yen-to-won stablecoin conversion and institutional settlement without routing through the U.S. dollar. This prior work provides context for the broader discussions held in Seoul, which also included tokenized assets and Kyobo’s own financial-service operations.
Circle’s recently launched Arc network, which went live on September 16, played a significant role in the forum. Positioned as a blockchain for financial markets, stablecoin payments, and real-time settlement, Arc aligns with the themes discussed in Seoul. SBI Group’s role as a founding validator further connects the Japanese group directly to Arc, underscoring the ongoing collaboration between these institutions.
