Lagarde Derails Binance's EU Ambitions Amid Regulatory Concerns

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), has dealt a significant blow to Binance's plans for expansion in Europe. In what was seen as a major milestone, the cryptocurrency exchange had been eyeing Greece as its entry point into the EU market.

Lagarde intervened after expressing serious concerns about Binance's history of legal entanglements and breaches of financial law. The exchange has faced fines exceeding $4.3 billion for its past transgressions.

The increasing dominance of dollar-pegged stablecoins was also a major concern, potentially derailing the ECB's vision for a digital euro. Lagarde views the digital euro as a pivotal element of her legacy as an institution leader.
