Lagarde Move Derails Binance EU License Bid Amid Stablecoin Fears
The European Central Bank's President Christine Lagarde reportedly halted Binance's application for a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license under MiCA through the Hellenic Capital Market Commission in Greece.
The company had nearly secured approval, but a single comment from Lagarde to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was enough to stall the process.
Binance's CEO Richard Teng had planned to fly to Athens for a photo opportunity with the prime minister, but the application was withdrawn just one week before the July 1 deadline for existing crypto companies to obtain licenses.
