Hunter Biden has launched a cryptocurrency called $LAPTOP, a meme coin tied to controversy surrounding his laptop during the 2020 presidential election.

The coin's name references the laptop that became a major point of contention in the final weeks of the campaign. Hunter Biden described $LAPTOP as a way to reclaim a symbol used against him.

Before the launch, Biden posted a video on X that included news coverage of the laptop. This follows a July social media post in which he challenged the laptop's provenance and chain of custody, acknowledging it contained records from a time when he was in active addiction.

The launch has drawn criticism, with some pointing out Hunter Biden's previous attacks on President Donald Trump's crypto businesses, including Trump's meme coin. Eric Trump also joined the criticism, writing that 'Hunter should go back to painting' and sharing a screenshot of $LAPTOP's launch followed by a crash.
