$LAPTOP Crashes by 98%, Leaving Investors with Significant Losses
Hunter Biden's memecoin, $LAPTOP, has been making waves in the crypto market. After launching at an initial price of US$222.75, it briefly reached a valuation of US$110 billion before crashing by around 98%. The token is now trading at less than US$1, with its market cap falling far below its peak.
The coin was listed on exchanges including Kraken and KuCoin, allowing users to buy and sell $LAPTOP tokens. However, the token's value plummeted after just a short period of time, leaving investors who had bought in at the initial price to take significant losses.
Biden framed the memecoin as a means to give back to his supporters, stating that 'they turned a laptop into a weapon' and that he 'decided to turn it into something else'. Two percent of the supply will go to traders who lost heavily on TRUMP, while 30% is earmarked for founders including Biden himself. However, these tokens are locked for six months, preventing them from being sold or transferred.
The token's market cap has now fallen to around US$318 million, a far cry from its peak of US$110 billion. This raises questions about the long-term viability and purpose of memecoins like $LAPTOP, which often seem to prioritize hype over actual value.
