The launch generated $6.9 million in trading volume, but it's worth noting that meme coins do not carry any intrinsic value and often surge in price due to social media hype.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Hunter Biden will retain 30% of the one billion tokens issued, with another 20% distributed to crypto wallets linked to people who lost money on President Donald Trump's $TRUMP meme coin. The remaining 50% will be available for public sale.
Hunter Biden teased the launch with a video compiling clips of news outlets and politicians referencing the laptop, which became a political firestorm in the final stretch of the 2020 presidential election after he left it at a Delaware computer repair shop in April 2019.
