A meme coin called LAPTOP built on Base by Hunter Biden crashed within hours of its launch, losing nearly all of its value. The token was meant to poke fun at former President Donald Trump's own memecoin, TRUMP.

Biden, the son of Joe Biden, created the token around a laptop he left at a repair shop in 2019. The device's contents fueled years of controversy and were later used by his father during his presidential campaign.

A trader tried to buy LAPTOP on the way down, purchasing 28,448.72 tokens at $5.97 each for a total of $170,000.

The investment quickly turned sour as the token's value plummeted to $0.87 per token, leaving the buyer with an 87% loss and a stake worth just $21,000.
