Hunter Biden's meme coin, $LAPTOP, saw an initial surge in value before plummeting to almost negligible levels. The coin rose from $37 to $222 within its first hour of trading on September 9, but had dropped to $1.36 by 3 p.m. EDT the same day, according to CoinMarketCap. This represents a staggering 95% drop in value since its launch.

The $LAPTOP coin's distribution strategy included issuing 1 billion tokens, with allocations for crypto wallet owners who lost money on President Trump's meme coin and subscribers to Hunter Biden's Substack. However, Andrew Callaghan's company clarified that he has no involvement with $LAPTOP aside from providing a mailing list.

The coin's launch coincides with a sensitive period for U.S. crypto legislation, as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is scheduled for a Senate vote on September 15, which could impact the regulatory landscape for digital assets. This mirrors the trajectory of other meme coins launched by political figures, including those by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
