$LAPTOP Valuation Implodes as Thin Liquidity Exposes Market Illusion
Hunter Biden's newly launched meme coin $LAPTOP saw an explosive initial price surge, briefly implying a valuation of nearly $200 billion. However, this astronomical figure was short-lived as the token's value plummeted over 90% in just one hour.
The token's market capitalization reached $144.96 billion within two minutes of its launch on September 9, 2026, according to data from Arkham. This calculation was based on a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens and the available liquidity in the market.
However, upon closer inspection, it became clear that this valuation was largely an illusion created by the thin liquidity in the market. The actual amount of capital supporting the price was only tens of thousands of dollars.
The project's tokenomics also played a significant role in the token's rapid decline. A large portion of tokens were allocated to founders, prediction mechanisms, and charity, while a smaller percentage was available for immediate sale. Additionally, claimable tokens from community airdrops and market-maker inventory flooded the market, further contributing to the price drop.
The token's launch coincided with Biden's political argument against Trump's $TRUMP token, which he had described as a 'grift.' The $LAPTOP project aimed to promote 'resilience, redemption, and recovery' through its tokenomics. However, this message failed to translate into sustained value for the token.
