LayerZero Unveils Quantum-Secure Commitment Scheme for Zero-Knowledge Proving
LayerZero has unveiled Akita, its first production-ready lattice-based post-quantum commitment scheme for zero-knowledge proving. The company claims that this new protocol delivers quantum resistance and smaller proof sizes compared to existing alternatives.
Akita will be integrated into Jolt, the zero-knowledge virtual machine developed with a16z crypto, which powers the Zero blockchain. This integration aims to provide faster and more secure proving capabilities while reducing memory usage by roughly half.
Lattice-based cryptography is used in Akita, adhering to NIST standards for post-quantum encryption and signatures. According to LayerZero, this approach offers smaller proof sizes and stronger performance on sparse workloads compared to hash-based methods.
Akita will enable Zero to become more quantum-secure as development progresses toward mainnet. The company has announced that additional post-quantum upgrades are planned for the future.
