Ledger Brings Cold Storage Security to Tokenized Equities
French hardware wallet maker Ledger has expanded its security reach beyond cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. The company has partnered with Payward, parent of crypto exchange Kraken, to bring cold storage security to tokenized equities on xStocks, a platform where users can trade tokenized versions of real stocks.
The integration means Ledger device owners will be able to sign transactions directly on Kraken's platform while keeping their private keys offline. The partnership also introduces Clear Signing support for Ledger devices, allowing users to verify what they're approving on their Ledger screen before confirming a transaction.
xStocks offers tokenized versions of US and international equities, backed 1:1 by tracker certificates issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited. These tokens are pegged to real equity value but have limited redeemability for the underlying assets.
The xStocks platform has surpassed $42 billion in cumulative transaction volume as of September 1, and Ledger plans to deepen its integrations with Payward beyond this initial rollout, particularly focusing on institutional clients.
