Lighter vs Paradex: Fee-Free Trading Platforms in Crypto
The cryptocurrency space has seen the emergence of new trading platforms, and two notable ones are Lighter and Paradex. Both platforms have gained attention for their unique features and offerings.
Lighter stands out with its fee-free trading for standard accounts, verifiable execution and liquidations via zero-knowledge proofs, and anchored order types including TWAP and conditional orders. Additionally, it does not require KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. However, the platform is young, having launched its mainnet in October 2025, and lacks EU authorization.
Paradex, on the other hand, offers fee-free trading for retail users across over 100 markets, a dedicated appchain with CEX-grade execution, and privacy perpetuals with position data not openly visible. It also provides self-custody options and a clearly separated fee model for professional and API accounts. However, it too lacks EU authorization.
Both platforms rely on community channels for support, which may be a concern for some users. Tax reporting is also the responsibility of the user in both cases.
