Linea Edges Scroll in zkEVM Performance and Liquidity
Two zkEVM networks, Linea and Scroll, are vying for dominance in the market. Both networks use Type 2 architecture, allowing developers to deploy Solidity contracts without modifications.
Linea uses a SNARK (PLONK) proof system with an average latency of 75 minutes, while Scroll uses Halo2-KZG with a latency of 90 minutes. Linea produces 22 transactions per second and has a block time of 2 seconds, outperforming Scroll's 14 TPS and 3-second block time.
Linea is targeting optimizations in its prover performance, aiming to reduce proof generation times through the Beta v5.3 update in Q4 2026. The update will switch to small fields, allowing for faster proof creation. A subsequent update, Beta v5.4, aims to achieve finality under 30 minutes by increasing throughput to 200 Mgas/s.
When it comes to liquidity, Linea holds $3.4 billion in TVL as of April 2026, outpacing Scroll's $2.1 billion. Median USDC transfers on Linea cost $0.04, compared to $0.06 on Scroll. DEX swaps on Linea have a median fee of $0.18, while Scroll charges $0.27.
Linea has leveraged the Consensys ecosystem to reach 30 million monthly active users, whereas Scroll targets Ethereum purists and researchers with its organic ecosystem. Infrastructure costs also vary between the two chains, with Linea's users often selecting RPC providers based on their handling of archive queries.
