Liquid Breach Exposes $320 Million in BTC, Raises AI Security Concerns
A recent security breach on the Liquid Network has resulted in the unauthorized withdrawal of approximately 4,000 BTC, valued at around $320 million. The funds were moved through SideSwap's Peg-out Authorization Key service, but both Liquid and SideSwap have stated that the PAK itself was not compromised.
Liquid attributed the breach to a reported vulnerability in Elements, the Bitcoin-based software used by the network. In response, Liquid disabled bridge nodes and paused network activity while federation members investigated the incident.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson weighed in on the breach, warning that artificial intelligence could make it easier for attackers to discover and exploit software vulnerabilities.
