The 'white hat' hackers behind the recent security incident on Liquid Network have returned $269.2 million in Bitcoin to the sidechain's federation wallet.

This move recovers about 85% of the funds stolen, leaving around $47 million still missing.

The actors, who claimed to be ethical hackers identifying security flaws to help organizations fix them, initially withdrew roughly 4,000 BTC from Liquid Network on Sunday.

They requested that Blockstream, the developers of the sidechain, patch their bridge nodes before returning the funds safely. After a series of messages exchanged through Bitcoin transactions, Blockstream sent a signed message confirming the nodes had been patched.

Liquid disabled its bridge nodes and asked exchanges to suspend L-BTC deposits and withdrawals following the incident.
