Liquid Network Suffers $320M Loss Amid BTC Heist
The Liquid Network, a prominent layer for Bitcoin transactions, has been rocked by a massive $320 million loss in an unprecedented upheaval within the cryptocurrency landscape.
On September 6, 2026, the Liquid Network abruptly ceased operations following the illicit extraction of nearly 4,000 BTC from its federation wallet. Although around 3,400 BTC was subsequently returned to the network, a considerable amount, roughly 600 BTC, worth about $47 million, is currently missing.
The incident raises serious alarms about the security vulnerabilities surrounding bridged assets and highlights the urgent need for a clearer understanding of security within decentralized finance (DeFi).
