LIT Token Surges as Traders Position for US Regulatory Opening

The price of Lighter's LIT token has surged 13% to $4.21, more than doubling in value over the past 30 days.

This increase comes as traders position themselves for a potential U.S. regulatory opening that could allow perpetual futures exchanges like Lighter to operate within the country.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued a policy statement on listing perpetual contracts in June, and staff letter 26-19 allowed registered exchanges to convert perpetual-style digital commodity futures into true perpetuals by dropping expiration dates.

However, Lighter has not applied for registration as a designated contract market with the CFTC, and there is no public docket naming the exchange. Despite this, the sector-wide opening is real, and Hyperliquid, another perpetual futures exchange, has announced a partnership with Kraken's parent company to list crypto perpetual contracts on a CFTC-registered exchange.
