Long Positions Liquidated in Bitcoin as Rally's Momentum Tested
A significant portion of Bitcoin's price surge may be attributed to the liquidation of long positions, rather than spot buyers. According to CoinGlass data, approximately $444 million in long positions were liquidated in the past 24 hours, marking the largest such event since September 15.
This development is significant because nearly $925 million in short bets were liquidated on September 21. This may mean that the rally's momentum could be influenced more by spot buyers than forced buying.
The current price of Bitcoin is trading just above $84,000, a level identified by Glassnode as a potential support zone. If the price holds above this threshold, it could pave the way for a move towards $96,700; however, a drop below $84,000 would bring $77,000 back into view.
The liquidation of long positions also comes on the heels of Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr's statement that further policy adjustments may be necessary to combat inflation. The release of S&P Global's flash PMI survey, which showed the fastest growth in five years, may have contributed to the selloff as well.
