Lopp's Wrench Attack Map Exposes Cryptocurrency Physical Threats
Jameson Lopp, co-founder and Chief Security Officer of Casa, has released an interactive dashboard documenting 360 known physical attacks on Bitcoin holders worldwide. The tool transforms years of quietly maintained GitHub data into a visual map of violence that the crypto industry has long preferred not to discuss.
The numbers paint a grim picture: in 2025, Lopp noted the frequency of these incidents averaged more than one per week. The first 11 weeks of 2026 saw 23 documented incidents, maintaining this pace without signs of slowing down.
France has emerged as a particular hotspot, with multiple cases reported in recent years. The pattern there has become prominent enough to generate national media coverage and prompt local crypto communities to issue specific safety advisories.
