LSE Prepares for Tokenized UK Stocks on LSE 24 Venue
The London Stock Exchange is set to launch tokenized UK stocks on its new LSE 24 venue, starting in 2027. The move will provide 24/5 trading from Monday to Friday and marks an expansion of the exchange's effort to build a venue that operates beyond standard market hours.
The LSE has partnered with Payward, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, to offer tokenized stocks tied to leading UK equity products. This follows Deutsche Börse's $200 million investment in Payward in April to expand access to blockchain-based securities and tokenized investment products.
The market value of tokenized stocks has risen 15% over the past 30 days to $2.53 billion, with the number of tokenized equity holders surging 153% to 2.45 million. The initiative makes the London bourse one of the latest established exchange operators to test tokenized stock offerings.
Nasdaq has also been expanding its push into tokenized markets and round-the-clock trading, partnering with Payward and its Backed subsidiary in March to develop an equities transformation gateway.
