The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has announced a partnership with Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, to launch tokenized stocks in the UK.

As part of this agreement, the 100 largest listed equities on the London Stock Exchange will be issued as 'xStocks' through Payward's tokenization framework. The xStocks will launch on LSE 24, a 24-hour trading venue, in 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

The partnership aims to explore wallet-based access, blockchain infrastructure, and connectivity with LSEG's regulated market ecosystem. According to Julia Hoggett, CEO of London Stock Exchange, tokenization 'must develop in a way that preserves the trust, rights and role of regulated markets.'
