LSK Price Jumps 900%, Then Crashes: What Caused the Volatility?
Lisk (LSK) experienced a wild price swing on Sunday, surging by over 900% in just one day. The token climbed above $2 before plummeting to near $0.80 within hours.
According to Coinglass, the single largest liquidation event in crypto over 24 hours occurred with LSK, resulting in $41.13 million in liquidations. Shorts accounted for $33.68 million of that total, indicating forced buying rather than fresh demand.
The price spike was largely attributed to short sellers being forced out as the token rose. When these sellers repurchased the token, it lifted the price further, creating a self-reinforcing cycle.
Lisk's plan to shut down its blockchain on October 31 and rebuild as a stablecoin payments service may have contributed to the sudden interest in the token. However, token holders still need to vote on the proposal to destroy 100 million LSK held in the treasury.
