Lummis Blames Anti-Trump Sentiment for Failed CLARITY Act Vote
Senator Cynthia Lummis has sharply criticized Democrats for their role in the failure of the CLARITY Act, a US crypto market-structure bill. The bill was drafted through bipartisan negotiations and expanded from about 300 pages to over 600 after incorporating Democratic demands.
Lummis stated that all Democrats voted against moving the bill forward, despite the extensive reflection of their provisions in the legislation. She argued that this opposition was driven by anti-Trump sentiment rather than a genuine concern for policy.
She emphasized that responsibility for the bill's failure should not be placed on pressure from Coinbase or Trump's meme coin business. Lummis acknowledged that Senators Angela Alsobrooks and Kirsten Gillibrand engaged sincerely in the negotiations, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful due to Democratic opposition.
