Lummis Warns Delaying US Crypto Legislation Until 2030 Could Cost Billions
Sen. Cynthia Lummis has sounded an alarm about the fate of US market-structure legislation, warning that failure to pass the CLARITY Act in this Congress could push the next realistic opportunity to 2030.
Lummis, a key proponent of the bill, noted that delay would come at a cost: jobs, investment, and tax revenue. She made her comments on September 6, just before the Senate's scheduled cloture vote.
The Senate needs 60 votes to advance debate on the bill, but with only 53 Republicans in the chamber, Democratic and independent support is crucial. The House calendar also poses a problem, with recent cancellations showing how little floor time may remain if the Senate changes the bill.
Lummis has promoted a Wyoming-style digital asset framework as a model for federal rules, but lawmakers still face disputes over ethics, stablecoin yield, and DeFi.
