Major Banks Lower Bitcoin Price Targets for 2026
Three major financial institutions have adjusted their Bitcoin price targets for 2026, setting new benchmarks at $100,000, $113,000, and $125,000. Standard Chartered slashed its forecast from $150,000 to $100,000, while Citi saw dramatic swings, starting at $143,000, dropping to $82,000, and finally settling at $113,000. Bernstein also lowered its estimate from $150,000 to $125,000 but maintains a long-term outlook of $300,000 by mid-2027.
As of October 6, Bitcoin is trading at $85,896, down 31.9% from its all-time high of $126,080. To reach the lowest target of $100,000, Bitcoin needs a 16.4% rally in just 86 days. Citi's target extends to October 2027, while Standard Chartered and Bernstein aim for year-end goals. Brian Vieten from Siebert Financial has the highest target at $175,000, set for 2027.
Despite the downward revisions, all three banks expect Bitcoin to end 2026 above its current price. Analysts caution that these forecasts are not set in stone, as demonstrated by Citi's volatile adjustments. If Bitcoin fails to close above $100,000 by year-end, all forecasts could be revised downward in early 2027.
The reliability of these targets remains uncertain. Investors should view them as indicators of Wall Street sentiment rather than exact predictions. The first critical benchmark is $100,000, requiring a 16.4% increase from current levels. If Bitcoin surpasses this threshold, it could validate even higher forecasts.
