Malaysia Crypto Trading Tops $4B, Fitch Says
Malaysia's cryptocurrency trading market has surpassed $4 billion in value, according to Fitch Ratings. The country has emerged as one of the more open Islamic-finance markets for regulated cryptocurrencies, with a 23% annual increase in trading on licensed exchanges.
The Securities Commission Malaysia reported RM17.14 billion in trading value across regulated digital asset exchanges in 2025, compared to RM13.93 billion in 2024. This represents around 2.5% of the value traded in Malaysia's domestic equity market.
Malaysia's regulatory framework and national Shariah treatment have given digital assets a clearer route into its Islamic-finance market than in several other jurisdictions. The country's Shariah framework sits alongside licensing rules, with regulated digital currencies qualifying as 'mal' or property from a Shariah perspective.
