Malaysian Magistrates' Court Fines Chinese Nationals in Crypto Scam Case

Two Chinese nationals have been fined for their role in a cryptocurrency investment scam in Malaysia. Chen Le and Zhong Guoxuan, both 36 and 31 years old respectively, pleaded guilty to conspiring to operate a bogus online scheme.

The fine of RM4,700 (US$1,153) was imposed by a magistrates' court in Johor after they entered their guilty pleas on September 21, 2026. The case involved an alleged conspiracy at Marina View Resort in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya on September 11, 2026.

The two men were charged under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code, which concerns parties to a criminal conspiracy to commit an unlawful act. They may face imprisonment for up to six months or a fine, or both.
