Malware Siphons $235K from Hundreds of Crypto Wallets in 48 Hours
A recent wave of cyber attacks has drained hundreds of cryptocurrency wallets in just 48 hours, resulting in losses totaling over $235,000. The malware, reportedly a remote access trojan, hijacked sessions and stole funds from unsuspecting victims.
The exact method of infection remains unknown, but session hijacking is suspected to be the primary vector. Meanwhile, a separate scam tricked victims into building an 'AI trading bot' based on a YouTube tutorial, with the code secretly designed to drain their wallets.
About 224 wallets reportedly lost 274.6 ETH, worth approximately $517,000, with some victims being asked to deposit an additional 50% after already being drained. The stolen funds are largely sitting in USDC, tied to a single wallet address.
