MARA Expands AI Computing Strategy with $98 Million Bitcoin Buy
MARA Holdings has resumed buying Bitcoin after a period of selling its holdings earlier this year. The company acquired 1,292 BTC for approximately $98.64 million in an over-the-counter transaction through FalconX at an average price of $76,347 per Bitcoin.
This purchase marks a shift from MARA's strategy to sell more than 20,880 BTC worth around $1.5 billion earlier in 2026. The company used the proceeds from those sales to strengthen its balance sheet by reducing debt and repurchasing convertible bonds, as well as investing in data centers designed for artificial intelligence workloads.
The latest acquisition adds to MARA's existing Bitcoin holdings, which include more than 25,000 BTC held through Fidelity Custody. This move is seen as a return to accumulation rather than a reversal of the company's strategy to diversify its computing operations into AI infrastructure.
