MARA Holdings Surges Past Bitcoin as Energy Assets Drive Valuation
MARA Holdings (NASDAQ:MARA) has seen its stock price surge this year, outperforming Bitcoin in significant ways. As of July 24, MARA's shares have risen by 39.6% compared to a decline of 26.9% for Bitcoin.
The company's valuation is closely tied to the value of its reported coin holdings, which account for approximately 47% of its equity value. According to its latest filing, MARA holds 35,303 Bitcoins as of March 31, valued at around $2.26 billion based on current prices.
The remainder of MARA's valuation is attributed to its energy initiatives and other holdings, which include the acquisition of Long Ridge, a gas plant with a capacity of 505 megawatts. The company projects $144 million in annualized adjusted EBITDA from this asset, pending regulatory clearance for the $1.5 billion deal.
Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT) and CleanSpark (NASDAQ:CLSK) have also seen significant gains this year, outperforming Bitcoin. However, MARA's divergence from its cryptocurrency holdings is a key issue for investors, who will be closely watching the company's second-quarter results to be released on August 6.
