MARA Rebuilds Bitcoin Reserves with $98.6 Million Acquisition
Marathon Digital Holdings, a publicly listed Bitcoin miner known by its ticker MARA, has made a significant move to rebuild its Bitcoin reserves. The company purchased 1,292 BTC for approximately $98.6 million, with each coin costing around $76,347.
This transaction was executed through FalconX, an institutional prime broker, and came to light via on-chain analytics from Lookonchain before the company made a formal announcement.
The timing of this purchase is notable, given that MARA sold a substantial portion of its Bitcoin reserves in the first quarter of 2026. The company offloaded around 20,880 BTC for about $1.5 billion, using the proceeds to cover operational expenses and fund strategic initiatives such as artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure.
This is not MARA's first move back toward accumulation, as the company quietly acquired 1,000 BTC through FalconX in June 2026. The repeated use of this broker suggests that MARA has adopted a deliberate operational strategy to rebuild its reserves.
The implications of this development extend beyond MARA itself, with industry observers watching whether other major miners will follow suit and rebuild their own reserves ahead of the next potential demand cycle.
