Marathon Commits Up to $1 Million to Bolster Bitcoin Development
Marathon Digital Holdings, a prominent Bitcoin mining company, has pledged its support for the development and maintenance of the open-source Bitcoin Core client software. During the recent Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami, Florida, Marathon announced it will match donations to the non-profit research firm Brink up to $500,000 on a two-for-one basis.
This commitment was made by Marathon CEO Fred Thiel, who emphasized the importance of compensating developers who rely on grants for their work. The company's generous pledge demonstrates its dedication to bolstering the Bitcoin funding landscape, which had concerns raised by the recent market downturn often referred to as the 'crypto winter'.
The funds will be used to support grants and programs that financially aid Bitcoin Core developers, ensuring the continuous improvement of the world's dominant blockchain. Thiel highlighted the reliance of developers on their personal resources and the necessity of grants like those provided by Brink to ensure their financial stability.
