Marlinspike Unveils Confer: A Privacy-Focused AI Chatbot with End-to-End Encryption

Moxie Marlinspike, the creator of Signal, has introduced Confer, a new AI chatbot designed to provide end-to-end encrypted conversations. Launched in December 2025, Confer uses WebAuthn passkeys to encrypt messages directly on the user's device and runs inference inside Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) on the server side.

This architecture ensures that the operator cannot access or store user conversations, not due to a policy but because of how the system is built. The entire technical framework is open-source and independently verifiable through remote attestation.

Confer operates on a freemium model, with a free tier allowing up to 20 messages per day across five active chats. A premium subscription costs $35 per month and unlocks unlimited access.
