The Marshall County Sheriff's Office in Alabama has issued a warning about a cryptocurrency scam targeting residents. Officials say scammers are calling people, claiming to be deputies or law enforcement officers, and demanding payment for a warrant or missed jury duty. The scammers then instruct the victims to pay with cash at a Bitcoin machine to resolve the issue, threatening fines or arrests if they don't comply.

The sheriff's office emphasizes that this is a scam and advises everyone to never put cash in a Bitcoin machine to resolve these so-called warrants or jury duty summons. They also warn that the scammers may spoof an official phone number to appear real.

Law enforcement officials stress that they will never call and demand payment over the phone, nor will they threaten fines or arrests over the phone or ask for personal information. If someone receives such a call, they are urged to hang up immediately and call the sheriff's office directly to verify the issue.
