Mastercard Acquires BVNK to Tap Into $309 Billion Stablecoin Market
Mastercard has made a strategic move to strengthen its position in the $309 billion stablecoin market by acquiring BVNK, a fintech platform that enables businesses to convert, hold, and move traditional and digital funds. The acquisition aims to connect existing financial systems with on-chain liquidity, not create new forms of digital money.
The challenge is no longer creating new payment rails but connecting them, said Chief Product Officer Jorn Lambert. BVNK's technology will help Mastercard accelerate cross-border business payments, treasury movements, and settlement services for banks and fintech companies.
The deal also links Mastercard with the Ripple ecosystem, as BVNK lists XRP as a supported asset and processes incoming deposits and outgoing payments through its multichain platform. This connection is significant, given that Ripple and BVNK have been working together since 2024 on corporate payments and institutional stablecoin development.
