Mastercard is joining forces with Ripple to host an XRP Ledger hackathon in New York. The 36-hour competition, scheduled for October 24-25, aims to encourage developers to explore new applications of the XRP Ledger across various financial use cases.

The event will feature four tracks covering protocol innovation, agentic finance, lending, and borrowing. Teams can either build entirely new projects or integrate XRP Ledger elements into existing products.

Mastercard's participation is significant, as it provides developers with access to real-world payment systems. This collaboration also opens the door for projects related to stablecoin settlements and tokenized assets.

The partnership between Mastercard and Ripple has been growing in recent years. In 2023, Ripple joined Mastercard's CBDC Partner Program, and in May, both companies participated in an XRP Ledger pilot involving Ondo Finance's tokenized US Treasury fund.
