Mastercard and Borderless.xyz have launched a pilot to test shared identity checks in cross-border stablecoin payments. The initiative, which uses the Crypto Credential framework, aims to improve trust and compliance in digital asset transactions.

The pilot focuses on how standardized assurance signals can help participants streamline approval, compliance, and risk processes across blockchain interactions. Borderless.xyz's global stablecoin orchestration network will be used for testing, with Infinia, Walapay, and Koywe among the first operators to test Crypto Credential within a single-audit compliance model.

Mastercard acquired BVNK in a $1.8 billion deal and has rolled out regulated stablecoin settlement support for assets including USDC, PYUSD, USDG, USDP, RLUSD, and SoFiUSD. The pilot is part of Mastercard's broader expansion into the stablecoin market.

Raj Dhamodharan, executive vice president for Blockchain and Digital Assets at Mastercard, said the relationship with Borderless.xyz began through Start Path and has grown as the digital asset ecosystem matured. Kevin Lehtiniitty, CEO and co-founder of Borderless, noted that compliance remains one of the biggest pain points in stablecoin payments.

The pilot represents a significant step towards trusted interactions across a growing network of participants. The framework's use of common standards and assurance signals is expected to reduce friction in cross-border flows.
