Mastercard Connects Digital Wallets with Global Payment Network
Mastercard has launched Wallet Pay, a portfolio that connects digital wallets with its global network for contactless, QR code, online, and cross-border payments. The expansion enters a massive market serving more than 4.3 billion users worldwide.
The wallet providers can use Mastercard's cloud-based payment technology without rebuilding their underlying infrastructure. They may also introduce credit, debit, or prepaid card programs. Consumers already use digital wallets for various payment methods, including bank cards, QR codes, and cryptocurrency transfers.
According to Juniper Research, the digital wallet market contained an estimated 4.4 billion users during 2025. Mastercard states that Alipay+ connects more than 50 e-wallets and banking apps, along with over 10 national payment systems.
