Mastercard Integrates Stellar into Stablecoin Payments Platform
Mastercard's stablecoin payments platform, BVNK, has added Stellar to its supported blockchain rails. This move follows Mastercard's acquisition of BVNK in March 2026 for up to $1.8 billion, with a base price of $1.5 billion and an additional $300 million contingent payment.
The integration is part of a platform that processed around $30 billion in annualized stablecoin payment volume before Mastercard's deal was finalized on August 3, 2026. By adding Stellar to the mix, BVNK's clients, including Worldpay and Deel, now have more options for cross-border settlement and treasury operations in over 130 countries.
BVNk has regulatory licenses from over 25 jurisdictions, including authorization under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation (MiCA). This expansion also builds on Mastercard's existing partnership with Stellar, which dates back to their joint project on Crypto Credential in 2024. The two companies are currently working together with Marqeta to launch stablecoin-backed Mastercard cards for fintechs in over 40 countries.
