Mastercard Spends $1.8B on Stablecoin Payments Acquisition

Share

Mastercard has agreed to acquire UK-based crypto payments firm BVNK for $1.8 billion, according to an announcement in late September 2026.

The deal adds regulated stablecoin payment and settlement capabilities to Mastercard's existing card and bank network infrastructure.

This move is part of a broader shift in stablecoin regulation and competition that our research tracks closely.

With BVNK, Mastercard will be able to plug crypto settlement directly into its existing infrastructure, connecting banks, merchants, and consumers across multiple countries.

The acquisition deepens the claim that Mastercard wants to handle both traditional card volumes and token-based settlement while layering fraud, data, and AI services on top.
