MCCA Backs CLARITY Act, Citing Stronger Tools for Crypto Crime Investigation

Share

The Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) has given its endorsement to the CLARITY Act, a proposed federal bill aiming to enhance law enforcement's ability to combat financial crimes involving digital assets.

The MCCA represents the largest police departments across the United States and cited key provisions of the bill that would expand anti-money laundering (AML) requirements and improve coordination between law enforcement, financial institutions, and cryptocurrency firms.

The association highlighted several elements of the bill, including provisions for temporary freezes on suspicious transactions, funding for research into cryptocurrency mixers, and fraud prevention measures for crypto kiosks. These measures are designed to keep pace with the rapidly evolving methods used by criminals to launder money through digital currencies.
