McCracken County Hit by Wave of Scams Involving Bitcoin

McCracken County in western Kentucky is experiencing another wave of scams, this time involving Bitcoin. According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, numerous reports have been received about phone calls claiming to be from a deputy.

The caller informs the person that they have either missed a court date or jury duty and must convert a sum of money to Bitcoin by putting cash into a Bitcoin machine. The scammer sometimes also asks the victim to purchase gift cards.

The Sheriff's Office warns residents to be on the lookout for these scams, emphasizing that legitimate authorities will never call and ask for money. They also caution that once money is converted to Bitcoin, there's virtually no chance of getting it back.
