MegaETH Launch Aims to Disrupt L2 Landscape with 10,000 TPS
The Ethereum Layer 2 sector has reached a critical juncture, with MegaETH's mainnet launch marking a significant milestone in its development. The project boasts a stated throughput of 10,000 transactions per second and sub-millisecond block times, making it the highest-throughput Ethereum-aligned L2 to date.
The timing of MegaETH's launch is deliberate, as the sector has grown rapidly in recent years. According to L2Beat data, the total value locked across all Ethereum scaling solutions stood at approximately $47 billion by April 28, 2026, up from around $12 billion at the start of 2024.
However, this growth has also created a paradox: as more chains proliferate, liquidity becomes increasingly fragmented, making it difficult for any single protocol to attract developer density and user volume. MegaETH's performance claims will need to be substantiated by developer adoption and fee revenue sustainability if it is to succeed in the competitive L2 landscape.
