MegaETH Launches with Blistering Speed, Challenges L2 Dominance
The Ethereum Layer 2 sector has reached a critical juncture with the launch of MegaETH, which claims to process 10,000 transactions per second. This high-throughput blockchain is built on top of Ethereum and features real-time execution with sub-millisecond block times.
MegaETH's mainnet launch targets 10,000 TPS, making it one of the fastest EVM-compatible chains in production. However, its performance alone may not be enough to disrupt established players like Arbitrum (ARB) and Base, which have attracted significant developer adoption and user volume.
The Layer 2 sector now holds approximately $47 billion in total value locked (TVL), but liquidity fragmentation across 50-plus active chains is creating structural pressure on weaker competitors. MegaETH's ability to attract developers and users will be crucial in determining its success, as performance benchmarks alone do not guarantee survival.
