Meme Coins Break Out as Bitcoin Surges to Eight-Month High
The meme coin sector is experiencing a surge in popularity, with three coins breaking out of long-term patterns. Dogwifhat (WIF), Pepe (PEPE), and Dogecoin (DOGE) are among the top performers this week.
According to CoinGecko data, WIF has gained over 40% in seven days, while PEPE added about 18%. Bitcoin (BTC) rose roughly 12% during the same period. The breakouts occurred as BTC climbed above $87,000 for the first time since January.
Dogwifhat (WIF) broke out of a nine-month inverse head and shoulders pattern on Monday, with volume reaching 32.2 million WIF, more than double its 20-day average. The neckline sits at $0.2322, which also marks the 0.236 Fibonacci retracement of the longer decline.
Pepe (PEPE) has formed a near-identical structure since February 2026, with a left shoulder in March and a right shoulder earlier this month. The Ethereum-based frog token cleared its neckline at $0.00000456 on Monday, with breakout volume reaching 17.65 trillion PEPE.
Dogecoin (DOGE) remains the sector's anchor, with a market cap near $15.3 billion and trades around $0.098 as of writing. It has carved out a double bottom pattern, with both lows landing near $0.080 at the end of August and in mid-September.
