MetaMask Breaks Away from Consensys to Pursue Consumer Finance Strategy
Consensys Software Inc., a leading Ethereum software company, is undergoing significant changes. The company will be splitting into two separate entities by the end of 2026.
The existing entity will rebrand as MetaMask and focus on consumer finance, while a new company will take over Consensys' name and concentrate on Ethereum protocol development and institutional blockchain infrastructure.
MetaMask has already made significant strides in the consumer wallet space with over 100 million downloads across nearly 190 countries. The company has processed trillions of dollars in cumulative transaction volume since launch.
The newly formed Consensys will develop and maintain Linea, a layer-2 Ethereum network being positioned for institutional capital. It will also continue work on Besu and Teku, two key Ethereum clients.
